Bed and Breakfast, Natchez MS, Stone House
Circa 1875 photograph of Aaron Stanton (1840-1918), a son of David Stanton. The Stantons built the house around the Billiard Hall which they had built earlier on the grounds of The Elms. Aaron and his brother Samuel owned the house jointly until the Stone family acquired it in 1877. Now hanging in the Billiard Hall, this original photograph was a generous gift from Kathy Marshall and Merrill Flinn, a descendant of Aaron Stanton.

History

The oldest part of this unique antebellum home was built circa 1850 as a luxurious private billiard hall by David Stanton, whose brother Frederic built Stanton Hall. The billiard hall stood on the grounds of The Elms, David Stanton's Natchez home, and was later expanded into a house. The house was acquired in 1877 by two Natchez natives, Joseph Newman Stone and his wife Theodora Britton, great-grandparents of the present owner, and is now on the National Register of Historic Places. Restoration undertaken in 1999 won the Historic Natchez Foundation's 2003 Restoration Award. The bed and breakfast accommodations were started in 2003. See The Billiard Hall for more history. Also, visit North South Trader’s Civil War Magazine website. The magazine included an extensive article on the Stone family in Volume 33 No. 4 / 2008.
